CBD, what is it?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, one of 100 plus cannabinoids in cannabis and the most abundant non-psychoactive (it does not produce the “high” associated with marijuana) cannabinoid. Many plants contain cannabinoids also known as Phyto cannabinoids, but people most commonly associate them to cannabis. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds. They are produced in plants, and naturally by the human body. The latter group are known as endocannabinoids or “endogenous cannabinoids.” The human body’s endocannabinoid system helps manage body functions and healing and is dependent on cannabinoids like CBD for proper function. Most CBD comes from industrial hemp, which usually has a higher CBD content than marijuana. In past legitimate information on CBD has been limited greatly due to the lack of proper research. This is directly related to laws prohibiting possession of cannabis (hemp or marijuana). With our government showing an increased understanding of the hemp and marijuana plant’s value, we may now begin to see real data on its efficacy through proper research. As a non-psychoactive compound greater access to the benefits of the plant’s potent medicinal properties without the concern of potential impairment from THC in marijuana can be realized.

How does CBD work?

Within our bodies a number of natural receptor systems exist, one such system is the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system, though relatively newly discovered, is extremely important and has a broad spectrum of functionality with regards to our body’s health management. This system has two different types of receptors throughout the body, CB1 (cannabinoid-1) and CB2 (cannabinoid-2). CB1 receptors primarily found in the brain (central nervous system) and peripheral nervous system, deal with coordination, movement, pain, emotions, mood, thinking, memories and appetite. CB2 receptors, found throughout the body are more common in the immune system and are associated with inflammation and pain. Although they are two different types of receptors with distinct functional differences, evidence points to them working together as well. Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring within our bodies and are provided by certain foods we may ingest, not just from cannabis.

Currently it is believed that CBD oil influences our bodies to naturally use more of its own endocannabinoids rather than affecting the receptors directly. Think of it as enhancing the uptake of our natural endocannabinoids.

Being that CBD may inhibit the function of the P450 cytochrome family of liver enzymes that is used to process many commonly prescribed medications, thereby potentially altering their effect it is suggested that you consult with your doctor for guidance before consuming CBD. CBD works much like grapefruit which is contraindicated with some prescription drugs due to its effect on the same enzyme system.

Is CBD right for me?

In general CBD is well tolerated and safe to use, though adverse reactions such as fatigue and digestive issues are possible. Talk to your doctor before taking CBD oil if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have any medical conditions, or take any medications. CBD oil has the potential to interact with medications, including those that also interact with grapefruit. Carefully read the ingredient list if you’re allergic to coconut oil or have any other possible allergies.

Doctor’s Solution has gone to great lengths to assure its patients / customers are receiving the very best quality USDA Certified, organically grown hemp CBD oil. But even with state-of-the-art processing trace amounts (extremely low, legal) of THC may exist, it’s still possible for it to show up on a drug test. Avoid taking CBD products if this is a concern, or communicate with your employer.

What is the best CBD for me?

Edibles, oils, tinctures, vapes?

Manufacturers of CBD oil use different methods to extract the compound. The extract is then added to a carrier oil and called CBD oil. CBD tinctures may use alcohol and if so, will be more rapidly absorbed into the system than an oil. Although vaping provides a high percentage of CBD absorption; vape pens use carrier agents (like propylene glycol) that are likely dangerous to the lungs. For the most efficient and best percentage of bioavailability / absorption, with no alcohol, sublingual oil is the choice. Sublingual delivery is much faster than when the same element is ingested orally. The percent of each dose absorbed is generally higher than that achieved by means of oral ingestion (adding to food or edibles). CBD soft gels provide a convenient method of consumption with slightly less bioavailability than sublingual delivery.

Why Organic?

NO pesticides, chemicals or questionable fertilizers, providing an organic industrial hemp as a healthy foundation to extract clean pure cannabinoids including CBD.

Think – quality in, equals quality out. Doctor’s Solution CBD starts with premium organic seed genetics, high in CBD. Grown in organic soil (noncontaminated by pesticides, chemicals, fertilizers or heavy metals). This is critical in providing safe, clean premium CBD oil, because industrial hemp contains a higher risk of contamination and is known as a bio-accumulator which means it has a tendency to draw/leach toxins from the soil. The science is called phytoremediation; a process where contaminants are absorbed by the fast-growing roots of the hemp plant which stores the toxins. By testing the seed, soil, plant (during growth, harvest, pre-shipping, at extraction lab arrival, post extraction process, during bottling) and adhering to true organic processes and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Doctor’s Solution has made every effort to assure our patients a safe, premium quality CBD oil supplement.

Why does Doctor’s Solution NOT use isolate?

Simple: Isolate is a powdered cannabidiol only product that is relatively cheap to produce as compared to our full spectrum organic CBD. Much of the isolate comes from China and it is believed that quality control / consistency is compromised for profit. Isolate is heavily processed as compared to our Flash Extraction technique full spectrum organic CBD and will not have the hundreds of active compounds in industrial hemp CBD that work best together, according to nature’s design. The medicinal strength of industrial hemp CBD lies in the team work of these many active compounds, and has been nicknamed the “entourage effect.” This full spectrum of compounds is believed to yield a broader health reach. This is one reason our patient’s taking our 600mg supplement have noticed better results than other CBD brands with “big numbers” 1000mg, 1300mg, 1500mg which likely contain isolate.

How much CBD should I take?

There are no researched standards of dosing, potency or delivery method that physicians or patients can consistently rely on. That being said, the minimal dose the patient can take to achieve the desired affect is the goal. A small percentage of CBD users who are very sensitivity to medication including THC; may notice mental / emotional effects, consequently, first time users should not operate automobiles or machinery until they become familiar with how they personally respond to CBD.  CBD oil is not recommended during pregnancy or while breast-feeding.

What will I feel?

There are many factors that impact the effect of CBD: Strain, amount/dose, potency, method of consumption, time of day, if the patient has eaten (how much and when) as well as the individual’s history, biochemistry, emotional state, diet and experience level of use. Generally, a subtle sense of relaxed calmness. Some patients have stated feeling a “sense of wellness”.

Side effects of CBD

Although we have never received complaint on our products, excess consumption may lead to tiredness. Certainly, asking your doctor if it conflicts with any medication that you/the patient are taking is a good idea but it is likely that the only form of “CBD” they are familiar with will be a chemically altered/synthetic pharmaceutical drug rather than the natural alternative.

CBD oil or Hemp oil, what is the difference?

Hemp seed oil, also known as hemp oil, is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant, no phytocannabinoids there. Hemp seed oil is rich in healthy omega-3 fatty acids, but beyond that it does not offer the benefits of a quality CBD oil. CBD oil products are made from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant, where all those beneficial phytocannabinoids are.

What is MCT?

Doctor’s Solution uses only premium C8 and C10 MCT coconut oil; sure, it costs us more, but it is an excellent brain and body food that complements the Doctor’s Solution patient goals of wellness and it increases our products stability and shelf life.  Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are fats found in foods like coconut oil. They are metabolized differently than the long chain triglycerides found in most other foods. MCT oil is a supplement that contains a lot of these fats and is claimed to have many health benefits. Triglycerides have two main purposes; they are either burned for energy or stored as body fat. The majority of fat in your diet is made up of long chain fatty acids, which contain 13–21 carbons. Short chain fatty acids have fewer than 6 carbon atoms. In contrast, the medium chain fatty acids in MCTs have 6–12 carbon atoms. Due to their shorter chain length, medium-chain triglycerides are more rapidly broken down and absorbed into the body. This makes them a quick energy source and less likely to be stored as fat.

The main medium-chain fatty acids:

  • C6: caproic acid or hexanoic acid
  • C8: caprylic acid or octanoic acid
  • C10: capric acid or decanoic acid
  • C12: lauric acid or dodecanoic acid

Some experts feel that C6, C8, and C10, which are referred to as the capra fatty acids, reflect the definition of MCTs more accurately than C12 (lauric acid). Many of the health benefits of MCT do not apply to lauric acid. Research and expert consensus is that C8 and C10 coconut oils are the MCTs of choice. Other MCT oils (such as Palm oil) are a compromise, hence we avoid them in our formulas. Doctor’s Solution uses only premium C8 and C10 MCT coconut oil.

THC, what is it?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects. It acts much like the cannabinoid chemicals made naturally by the body, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). THC is present to some degree in all cannabis; both industrial hemp and marijuana. Where certain levels of THC are psycho-active, CBD is non-psychoactive, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, and actually blocks the “high” associated with THC. Passage of the 2018 Farm Bill by the U.S. Congress  made hemp products that contain less than 0.3 percent concentration of THC legal under federal law; you may now access, buy and consume CBD that meets this acceptably safe and legal limit. Any true “full spectrum” CBD will have trace amounts of THC but safe / legal CBD will not give the patient a “high”. Buy smart and use sensibly. Consult with your doctor and your employer it they require cannabinoid or drug testing: just to be safe.

Why doesn’t Doctor’s Solution have “flavors”

Simple, adding a flavor means something else in “the bottle” must be reduced; thereby taking away valuable medicine. For us, the flavor must also be USDA certified organic. Due to the unique patented extraction process, we don’t need to add any flavorings to mask the bitter, unpleasant flavor common to other CBD oils derived from other extraction methods. Honestly this is about quality medicine for your body; if you want strawberry kiwi, that’s fine, get a lollipop 😉

What is GMP certified?

The acronym GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practices, and is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. To be GMP certified means that the manufacturer has demonstrated a strong regulatory commitment and compliance to international GMP standards.
